Lion Dance

The lion dance is another important tradition in Chinese festival, usually performed with the dragon dance on auspicious occasions. A good performance is believed to bring good fortune and happiness. The lion dance requires more kung fu skills than the dragon dance. There are two performers who play the lion. One handles the lion's head and leads the dance and shows the lion's emotions while the other plays the body and the tail. They hide themselves under a cloth attached to the head, which makes up the lion's body. A drum and cymbals accompany the lion.

The Chinese Folk Art Workshop is comprised of a senior and a junior group. The senior group focuses on kung fu skills, which are used during the lion dance. The junior group focuses on the basic kung fu skills.
